We were pleased to host Rotary District Governor Kyle Haugen at today's meeting.  Kyle hails from the Prior Lake Club and has the distinction of being, at age 40, one of the youngest Rotary District Governors to ever hold the office.  Also in attendance was former District Governor Gary Campbell from the Anoka Club.  DG Haugen is a third generation Rotarian.  He raised $2,500 for the RI Foundation at his wedding reception several years ago and has already named his wife and child as Paul Harris Fellows.  This is a man who walks the talk!  He is an articulate spokesman for the Foundation and congratulated our club on our strong history of contributions.  He recounted his experience of traveling to Haiti seven years ago following the earthquake there and seeing the inherent unfairness of the way so much of the world lives.  In addition to comments about the Foundation, Kyle reminded us of the importance of becoming more visible in the local community and to not only attract but retain new members as well as to focus on recruiting more women and people under 40.  This is true across our Rotary District, where only 4% of members are under 40 and 32% are female.  He also highlighted a new focus for our district starting this year.  A task team is being formed to get involved in the problem of human slavery/sex trafficking.  This "business" has grown to be the second most profitable in the U.S. today - second only to sale of illegal drugs!  He encouraged anyone interested in becoming involved to contact the district.
