August is not a busy month in the Rotary year. We don't have any events this year, but we do have our craft beer tasting event next year. Please submit suggested names for the event. The fundraising committee will pick 3 or 4 and the club will vote for what it wants the name to be at a meeting in late August or early September. The Committee's next meeting is on the 19th. We are making good progress, but feel free to help us in any way you can. 

 

 

 

Welcome to a new Rotary year!  Today's meeting represented the official " passing of the baton" from outgoing president Ken Hola to incoming president Peggy Strom.  Ken reflected upon our club's many accomplishments during 2015/2016, including a successful Rockin' Rotary fundraiser and a number of meaningful outreach activities such as volunteering at Feed Our Starving Children, and Children's Hospital Ronald McDonald House.  Ken expressed his appreciation for those who held leadership positions in the club this past year, providing each with a jaunty winter hat with Rotary logo and Rotary colors.  Peggy then spoke to the year just begun - a year with several new unique challenges.  A team led by Kevin Keenan has begun planning a new fundraiser, which will preview in August 2017.  Also, for the first time in a number of years our club will host and support both an inbound and an outbound exchange student.  A team led by Bill Kiehnbaum has done the considerable work required to identify and qualify two of the three host families we will need for our inbound student.  We're off and running on what will surely be another successful Rotary year!

He noted that he spent five years of Active Duty with one unit and served in four different combat deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq. He noted that although the deployments were challenging, it was in many ways less stressful than the training he went through in Ranger School. He is now living in the area and working as a sales representative for liquor distributor.
