Today's guest speaker was Rob Thomas, Development Director for the MN History Theatre in St. Paul.  Rob  has spoken to our club before, when he was Executive Director of The Lakeshore Players Theatre in White Bear Lake.  He is a member of the St. Paul Rotary Club.  The History Theatre itself has an interesting history:  Founded in 1978 with the concept of producing plays that focus on historical events unique to Minnesota.  One of it's most successful and long-running shows is "Glensheen".  Who would think that a musical comedy about one of the state’s most notorious murders would become such a hit?  The following shows are upcoming: 1) "Whoosh", a one-man show intertwining the rich history of St. Anthony Falls  in the post-Civil War era with the story of local Irish immigrants.  2) "Rollicking", a musical about the St. Paul Winter Carnival, 3) "Hungry Like The Wolf", a comedy about the "Wilmar 8" - the first all female labor strike, and 4) "Courting Harry"  which traces the journey of Minnesota natives Chief Justice Warren Burger and Justice Harry Blackmun, from their roots in the St. Paul neighborhood to the pinnacle of the nation’s highest court.
