Today's speaker was Shoreview City Manager, Brad Martens. Brad has been in this role for a little over six months now, having been hired after a long search to replace Terry Schwerm following Terry's retirement in late 2021. Brad came into the role with 17 years of management experience in other, smaller city organizations. He knew he had big shoes to fill given the high regard in which Terry was held during his 20+ years as Shoreview's administrative leader. But he spoke appreciatively of the very warm welcome he has received. He also noted the unusual level of trust that exists between city leaders and its many partners, such as builders and developers. Such is not always the case! Shoreview continues to have a AAA bond rating and is a much sought-after place to live. After months of trying unsuccessfully to buy a home within the city boundaries, he ended up settling in New Brighton and therefore is still within the boundaries of the Mounds View School District - also a much sought-after amenity for Twin City home buyers. Brad discussed some of the new construction going on within the city and provided an update on the very controversial proposal to develop the former Gospel Mission site on Snail Lake. "Due Dilligence" is still underway with a formal proposal expected in September.
