Today we welcomed Chris Stein and Tina Hall to speak on the subject of Rotary's Global "Operation Pollination" initiative.  Chris is with the Stillwater Rotary Club and spoke at one of meetings several years ago on the importance of this initiative.  Since that time, our own Charlie Oltman put together a District Grant request to help fund a pollinator garden in our community.  That grant was approved and plans have come together to create a garden in McCullough Park in Shoreview.   Tina joined us remotely from Newcastle, Maine where she is actively involved in pollinator work and previously served as a Rotary District Governor.  She congratulated Charlie and our club for applying for and receiving this grant, together with a supporting grant from the Shoreview Community Foundation.  Her presentation included many beautiful pictures of similar projects undertaken in other U.S. cities, noting that Rotary's interest in this subject started in the midwest and has spread across the country.  Operation Pollination recognizes the importance of pollinator habitat both restored and maintained on public and private lands.  Its goal is to stabilize and/or increase populations of pollinator species throughout the world which is critical to our food supply.
